Soon Australia plans to enshrine plans to intentionally cyber stalk its kids. For their own good, of course.
I’m first minded of the net famous quote attributed to John Gilmore circa 1993 “The Net interprets censorship as damage and routes around it”.
Many popular American originated platforms will undoubtedly be asked by the Australian government to implement surveillance of their users.
And I’d expect most such companies to rightfully decline, with varying levels of politeness.
The cynical part of me assumes it’s an attempt to drive a wedge issue towards trying again to strongarm such companies into paying news companies for their content.
But again – good luck with that. While I often eye roll at American antics, in this case I feel such reactions would be the more moderate, sane ones.
