So I’ve found something to host my home automation and VPN server. It’s a NUC style mini PC from Kogan, and believe it or not (very unusual for me) – it’s running Windows (10 Pro).

I’ve typically steered clear of Windows to date, however while I’ll still pick a headless Linux server if given a choice, I’ve somewhat warmed to Hyper-V for running a Virtual Machine. It just works – and it’s painless.

Now I’m weighing up tighter home network security vs backup means of remote access. And also whether to go something like a ubiquiti mesh segmented network. And also pi-hole. And…
